Work Experience Programmes
The department offers to students the opportunity of having work
experience as a part of their degree. At present, the following
programmes are available:
- BSc Computing and Information Systems (Work Experience)
- BSc Computer Science (Work Experience)
- BSc Creative Computing (Work Experience)
The work experience component of these degree programmes consists of a
placement of duration at least 9 months in a role
related to Computer Science, Computing and Information Systems, or
Creative Computing (as appropriate). The placement happens between
level 5 and level 6 – that is, normally between the second and
third years of an undergraduate course.
Assessment for the work experience component is pass or fail, and is
based on:
- student work experience reports
- placement supervisor work experience reports
- work placement visit report [discretionary]
In the event of failure of the placement, the student may only achieve
a degree with no work experience component.

Details
In order to transfer your registration to the appropriate degree
programme (with Work Experience in the title), a number of conditions
must be met:
- you have successfully completed the second year of your
undergraduate programme;
- you have a offer of an appropriate work placement of duration
between 9 and 12 months from an employer in the UK, with a clear
written specification of the role of the student in the placement;
- you submit a hard copy of the offer you hold from the employer to
the department (to reach Isabelle no later than the end of June) and
you and your employer receive confirmation in writing or e-mail from
me that the placement can go ahead.
Note that the placement cannot start until the department
has signed off your change of programme and approved your work
placement.
