Inner Centre is an interactive installation that incites the visitor to experience the Ballardian concept of “inner space” and circular time.
Setting foot in a square empty room with black walls, floor and ceiling, the visitor witnesses how 3 concentric white circles are drawn by a beam light on the floor and segmented by a cross which delimits its centre.
A new trace of pulsating circles reproducing a repetitive bleeping sound will then be displayed at the center of the room, as if indicating a designated position. The visitor standing at the axis will be faced with its own reflection and after a few moments, the vision of a halo around their heads will be evident. In addition, a visualization of the universe will be displayed on the ceiling which will be accompanied by the sounds of the stars, a technique called "stellar seismology".
Drawing on the concepts Hindu and Buddhist mandala, Jungian unconscious self, macro and micro cosmos correlation, meditation as a journey to the inner centre, christian divinity and augmented reality this installation offers an immersive surrealist experience at the intersection of reality and imagination. It ultimately raises interpretations of the concept of god and the divine as human-constructed devices to deal with the flux of time and death.
Using openCV technology, this project will need a computer running a Processing sketch, two webcams and a projector running at all times.
The installation must be experience in intimacy.
