Project: FRANK
David Casal and Davide Morelli are extending their FRANK framework into the MPEG7 domain.
FRANK is a framework of software components, written to aid composers/programmers in constructing co-evolutionary (or simply live) algorithms for musical composition and improvisation.

Project: Behavioural objects for musical composition and performance
This LAM project is being undertaken by Alice Eldridge and Ollie Bown. Their proposal, which is pasted below, is an expansion of ideas posted previously on the wiki.
The "central burning question" for Alice and Ollie is how various musicians might profitabally use biologically inspired music systems. They propose three simple developments, which will help get vital feedback and establish a long term communication cycle between developers and musicians that will drive the discovery of otherwise ignored possibilities.

Project: Framework for sonification and visualisation of multiagent systems
This LAM project is headed by Fredrik Olofsson and Mark d'Inverno.
Their aim is to add P and Q functionality to their existing Multi-Agent system. From a LAM perspective, Multi-Agent Systems are arguably a general framework for natural patterning algorithms, capable of subsuming neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, swarms and other population based systems.
"One of the main objectives that drives the development of this framework is to create interesting musical structures by 'hijacking' what is hopefully emerging from within the system as a whole."

Research positions
UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH - COMPUTER MUSIC RESEARCH
RESEARCH FELLOW IN NEUROSCIENCE OF MUSIC
There will soon be a two-year (24 months) Research Fellow position available in the Faculty of Technology at the University of Plymouth, UK. The commencing date for this post will be 01 July 2006 (negotiable). This post will be part of a new EPSRC-funded research project aimed at the development of models and tools for the application of probabilistic machine learning techniques to the analysis of music and brain imaging data on music cognition, to be developed in collaboration with University College London, Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (Germany) and Johannes Kepler University of Linz (Austria).
Candidates for this post will be expected to have an interdisciplinary background linking Cognitive Neuroscience, Music and Computing, preferably with a PhD on an allied discipline. Experience with EEG and fMRI data collection, preparation and analysis will be required.
In addition, two new positions (1 PhD scholarship and 1 Research Fellow in Computer Music) connected to this project will be available for start in Jan 07 and Jul 07, respectively. More information about these additional posts will be circulated in due time.
More details about the project and these posts can be found on the web pages at http://neuromusic.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/jobs.html
More information about computer music research at the University of Plymouth can be found at http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Eduardo R Miranda on e-mail eduardo.miranda@plymouth.ac.uk.

Contemporary Music weekend
For anyone looking for a good excuse to visit Devon this weekend, here is a good one: the Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival, a weekend of concerts, performances, lectures, etc. exploring contemporary music for voices.
Full programme can be found here:

Live (Dynamical Systems) Algorithms for Musical Instruments
As a follow up to the talk I gave (with long distance Alice) at the December 2005 meeting I am posting a brief proposal that we developed prior to the talk. We'd like to hear more from anyone interested in contributing modules, studying how musicians use such systems, using such systems as musicians, or continuing the discussion in any way. Ultimately we'd like to put this forward as a fully-fledged project proposal...

Advice on wave motion and calculation
I understand that this may be outside the scope of this Wiki, but perhaps other LAM members may be able to help. We are interested in exploring the musical application of algorithms relating to the modelling of ocean and coastal waves and the movement of fluids.

Gregory Bateson
Well, I'm interested in applying Gregory Bateson's ideas about mind in CAC.
Do anyone here knows about someone else researching on that topic? Do people in the field know or discuss Bateson's ideas? Any hint on works/researchers working with that will be welcome.
To those of you who have attended SBCM2005 I was there too and presented my short paper on the last morning.
Cheers!
