This is a temporary web-page for the Purcell Plus project.

Purcell Plus (2006-2012) is a project to investigate methodological issues surrounding the use of computer techniques in musicology being conducted in the Computing Department of Goldsmiths, University of London. It is funded under the AHRC/EPSRC/JISC eScience Initiative, and includes a PhD studentship for which we are seeking good candidates (closing date 13th June 2008).

This four-year studentship is an exciting opportunity for a musicologist who is not afraid of the technology, or a technologist with a good deal of musical knowledge and historical awareness.

Purcell Plus is building a computer-assisted research framework around three domains of information: musical scores, recordings and textual commentaries on the music. Our first test case is Henry Purcell's set of Fantazies and In Nomines, based on the composer's autograph score (c1680) in the British Library.

You can see the (edited) Case for Support from the Purcell Plus project proposal here.
