3.2. Elementary Image Operations

A digital image can be modified in a number of ways.

A first group of operators act on individual pixels or group of pixels.
This usually takes the form of arithmetic operations on pixels, or of functions applied to pixels (individually or by groups/regions).

One basic, yet important, operation is one which transforms a grey (or color) level image into a binary (black & white, figure & ground) one:
