AI

Its Aesthetics and influence on the Art world

“Maybe the only significant difference between a really smart simulation and a human being was the noise they made when you punched them.” ― Terry Pratchett , The Long Earth

Artificial intelligence is already capable of creating a staggering array of content. It can create painting, produce music, etc. It form vast amount of debates around the idea of Human “God-given” creativity.
The major questions about Artificial intelligence art are moving around three pillars: “how limited its potential, from what perspective AI should be treated, and can the outcome truly be described as “creative” or “imaginative”.

To explore and develop the background of modern AI artists we created a series of “Syntho-master” experiments.
The first step was getting in touch with interactive web containment which lets you draw together with a recurrent neural network model which name is “sketch-rnn”. This particular artificial doodler being taught through analysing more than 10.6 million drawings collected from another ‘AI-play’ game “Quick,Draw!”. The idea for biological participant to start drawing a particular object. Once it stops, artificial partner will take control and make several attempts to guess the rest of the doodle.

Even this primitive-looking AI provoke several important prospections for the future of post-conceptual Art world.
One of the main disputes of modern art world based on never ending conflict between technique and idea based artist and especially the usage of assistants

Lets have a look at David Hockney’s Radio Times interview.
“The Old Masters tended to be very open about the identity of their artist assistants. After all, having a highly skilled art assistant in your studio meant that you, the master artist, had trained the assistant well. One can

imagine the bragging rights an Old Master had when his relationship with a pupil came full-circle -- his methods and teachings lived on in the pupil... who was now a master in his own right. Today we rarely see that kind of transparency in regard to the use of artist assistants in general.

Today artists who utilize artist assistants, such as Damien Hirst, tend to keep said information a tightly guarded secret -- at least within the context of the mainstream art world. In other words, the Old Masters viewed their assistants as pupils -- a point of pride -- whereas Hirst and others view their assistants as mere employees. The artist working for Hirst is providing a service that has been paid for rather than being a student who is learning from his or her teacher.’’

In my opinion in near future the development of deep learning AI can take this diversity to the next level. Lets have a look on second step of our “SynthoArtist” experiment.

This Digital art piece has been created by 3 different neural networks with minimum impact of the biological creator. That supports the point that development and implementation of artificial intelligence into creative field can activate the dystopic inspirational hypocrisy and overload of art trading platforms with formation of massive AAF(Artificial art factories).

However according to Mark Riedl from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta it can push GANs out of their comfort zone and breathe a new life into stagnating post-modern art reality.

Taking the topic of AI development further we should concentrate on political influence which deep learning and neural networks can produce in nearest future and how it will affect the World society.

The AI does not hate you, nor does it love you, but you are made out of atoms which it can use for something else. - ELIEZER YUDKOWSKY, Artificial Intelligence as a Positive and Negative Factor in Global Risk

AI has already participated in political work in various ways even people recognised it or not. Political Campaign AI would be one example for that. AI analyses particular peopleʼs interests and suggest adverts or lots of resources such as articles, photos, videos and etc via social network service like Facebook and Instagram by using existing data base algorithms by itself. For example, on Facebook when we play one video, they automatically provide video lists which are related the video we already chose and place those videos below the video you selected. And, we may check advertisements, photos, videos and live streaming on suggesting page depending on what we pushed ‘likeʼ option about contents on Instagram. Even, your phone AI can track your photos and locations. Photo AI in your phone is educated to find people accordingly faces and gathering photos by places. It proves your phone has algorithm associated with certain logics. Of course, it only works on your phone and nobody can see your privacy. Accordingly, Whether or not we intend to see those things, AI already has practical implementations in our life and it knows what we are interested in. So, AI could be called the political system. Thus, some people say the AI turned SNS(Social Networking Service) into a weaponised technique for manipulating peopleʼs thoughts by using suggestion. On the one hand, AI now being use to retain individual personʼs interests with reflecting the particularity of each human being. On the other hand, this automation have a possibility to influence determining organisations and even peopleʼs own thoughts. Itʼs not difficult to find the cases which SNS instigate the crowd and they easily follow what they saw and heard from SNS beyond any doubt and they go so far as to distort manipulate the truth. Even though this tendency is not the fault to AI, the crucial thing is AI has been revealed to operate for powerful actual roles in politics.

AI can be a politician? Is it going to kill us or save us?

AI has used by politics more and more, having said that, in general, the main purpose of AI is making peopleʼs life much healthier and comfortable. And AI developers have focused on how to train AI to maximise happiness for the most people. Some people believe, AI should be a politician instead of human being. They say, if the AI is fully educated to our idealistic belief, the world would be more powerful and may solve various problems such as famine, war, economic issues and all things we are facing at this moment. It sounds like because of AI, we can live in an utopia, however, the ideal maybe prove to be impossible to live up to peopleʼs expectations.

All political theories may occur conflicts when two or more actors oppose each other in political interaction, also culturally and religiously since the beginning of civilisation human kind and many of opposite values are incompatible. AI, However, maybe useful in arbitrating in a dispute and may produce good outcomes. In additional, give us the wisest solutions by acting as a leader. The point is the solutions can be the wisest scheme but couldnʼt satisfy all peopleʼs needs. Therefore, the other unexpected conflicts may will occur and bring more complicated issues comparing to before AI. Thus, it doesnʼt seem to find plenty of benefits to use AI as politicians. No one can deny that the use of AI has the possibility to apply from individuals to the world. For instance, AI may contribute greatly to the preservation of health by medical examination and performing operation without mistakes instead of human surgeons. AI also lays itʼs ideas for social issues such as welfare system and companyʼs business by accumulating datas and analysing with right algorithm for citizens. Furthermore, it may adjust diplomatic affairs between each countries without Cold War and produce the solution about economic growth. Although AI has various problems as a politician, it can perform a key role as a tool such as investigating and analysing about economy, diplomacy, welfare system and it can be adapted all social phenomenons but it doesnʼt really matter if AI exist or not, the whole decisions rest with human being and AI maybe help to make right decisions to point us in the right direction.
